Constantly juggling work with a busy social calendar can leave you feeling rundown, stressed and exhausted. That’s why we always encourage taking a break every now and then – and if you’re looking for the ultimate summer retreat to help you kick back and unwind, we’ve got you covered.
Summer RESET is a week-long urban retreat brought to you by the wonderful Walthamstow-based yoga studio, East of Eden. This summer, between 24-30 July, they’ll help you supercharge your wellbeing with a bunch of energising classes and workshops taught by Pilates and yoga experts that are sure to help you get your health back on track. Whether it’s yoga, meditation or advice on nutrition you’re after, there’s something for everyone.
We’ve all heard of those exotic yoga retreats located in the most untouched parts of paradise, but Summer RESET could bring that paradise to you. It’s designed to give you the benefits of a retreat away but without the hefty price tag, so you can reach your zen far more accessibly. At only £100 per person, we reckon it’s worth a go.
East of Eden co-founder and yoga teacher Naomi Costantino explains ‘that everything in life works in line with the cycles of nature. The way we practise yoga, look after our body and work with our energy should be no different. More flow and ease can be found when we stay in tune with these seasonal cycles instead of being out of sync with the environment around us.’ That’s why during the retreat, you’ll also have unlimited access to their yoga and Pilates studios for five days – just enough time to wind down and work on your physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
Summer is supposed to be a time of release, fulfilment and high energy – so make yours just that by reconnecting with your mind and body. What better way to do that by surrounding yourself with like-minded people who are also passionate about their health and wellbeing?

It’s finally upon us…. Long, balmy afternoons spent down the park with friends and the feeling of sun kissed skin. The focus of our second retreat is therefore on seasonal foods that provide energy and lift our mood during the Summer months when all you want to do is come out and play!
Nothing says high Summer vibes more than our retreat Superfood, Cacao. Raw Cacao powder is made by cold-pressing unroasted Cocoa beans and is the purest form of chocolate you can consume as it is far less processed than cocoa powder or chocolate bars. It is also a fantastic source of antioxidants, magnesium and iron. A spoonful can literally transform smoothies or desserts, as you will find out on the retreat!
The Summer RESET Superfood will run throughout the menu plans for RESET between July 24th and 30th. Read more about our seasonal urban retreat and Kate Whitelock, our resident nutritionist who has created all the recipes, here.
Ingredients: Makes enough for 10-12 brownies
- 200g soaked nuts (I like to use 50/50 walnuts/pecans)
- 160g medjool dates
- 70g cacao powder
- 40g sour cherries
- 1 tbsp. tahini
- Pinch of salt
- Line a square baking dish with parchment paper
- Soak your nuts in water for approx. 1 hour. Drain and add to your food processor and blitz until you get a crumbly texture
- Add in the remaining ingredients and pulse a few times until it is all well combined and starting to resemble a ball
- Remove the mixture, break apart and then add it to the food processor again. Do this 2-3 times until you get a lovely smooth looking texture
- Flatten out your brownie mix and push down so that it is nicely packed down
- Place the dish in the freezer for 20 mins. Remove and then cut into 10 pieces and keep in the fridge

Tried & Tested: Ommersion Yin Yoga and Gong Bath
June 7, 2016 by Eliza Flynn
I’ve been up super early for a morning rave before so it’s hardly surprising that I find myself choosing to spend my Saturday evening at East of Eden yoga studio in Walthamstow. Yet, this was for an entirely new experience – an Ommersion yin yoga and gong bath session.
Ommersion yin yoga and gong bath
Ommersion is a new monthly event which launched it’s opening night, quite aptly, on 21st May, a new moon. It’s held in the newly opened top floor studio at East of Eden and lasts for 2 hours from 7.30pm.
